You may hear,

“You are closed-minded.”

The song, “Try to See it My Way” comes to mind. “Let’s not fight. Accept my assumptions without question.” The one making the “closed-minded” accusation is actually having a closed mind. In fact, that mind has closed based on assumptions and stories that are masquerading as facts. They are not facts. They are stories and assumptions–made-up stuff.

It is impossible to be open-minded to everything.  Those who are open-minded to Satan are closed-minded to God.  Those who are open-minded to God are closed-minded to Satan.  In fact, the word, simple, in Proverbs, means an open door.

These kinds of objections usually come up when someone is focused on theology, theory, rationalization, and argument. The fact is that Jesus Christ is none of these. He is a Person. We know Him. We are learning to discern Him, to hear His Voice. We are learning to respond to His Voice in submission and in obedience. We are learning to allow His Grace to think His Thoughts, say His Words, and do His Acts through us. We are but children in this regard, but we have come to whatever maturity we have reached, and we look forward to going on with Jesus to higher heights.

It is OK to point these things out to an unbeliever.  You may get a response like the  following, though.

YOU say MY mind is closed to ONE of the TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND gods humans have invented named and worshiped so far?

Answer:

Here is the reason that your mind is closed to the real God.   You want to do what you want to do.  Would I be right in saying that you don’t want to submit to the Almighty Creator of the Universe?

When a person is not born again, that person’s father controls them.   They may have even gone to a church but never met Jesus, so their father keeps controlling them.   This is why they cannot turn to God.

This may sound harsh, but you will see that they are very similar to some of the things that Jesus said to those who would not receive Him.  We can’t recommend this in every situation, and certainly not unless you are led by the Holy Spirit to say it.

Ungodly people are forced to hold on tightly to some basic presuppositions.  These presuppositions are just simple-minded assumptions.  They are filters and a way to censor out any information that supports the existence of God.  They set up a web of rules to filter out God.  They will only accept those things that conform to Naturalism, materialism, and uniformitarianism.  Naturalism claims that God does nothing.  Materialism claims that there is no God or spiritual realm.  Uniformitarianism claims that there was not creation and that there was no violent worldwide flood, as the Bible and numerous other historical accounts record.  Whatever they observe that does not conform to this complex filter is censored.  The way that it is censored can take several forms.  The ungodly may boldly proclaim that, though the data appears to support God’s version and refute the version of the ungodly, yet it still must be interpreted to mean just the opposite of what it does mean.  A backup method that ungodly people use is to prophecy that in the future, science will be able to explain what they see as an anomaly.  If that fails, they will hide the data, set it aside, or lie to keep the public from knowing the truth.  The data clearly demolishes the story of the ungodly and clearly supports the reality of the Creator God, His Bible, and His abiding Presence in His people.  When confronted with the obvious, a closed-minded ungodly person says, “I can’t understand it.”  They are willingly ignorant because they refuse to hold God in their knowledge.  The reality is that these people, for whatever reason, don’t what to know the Creator.  They don’t want to truly know Jesus, their Creator.
