It seems that the most faithfully-worshiped idol in Christianity is the human intellect. Intellectuals are held in high esteem. Each Christian seems to want to be regarded as an intellectual at some level. This destroys the simplicity of Christ. Christianity is, after all, about knowing Christ. It’s not about knowing information. It’s not about being religious. It’s about being led and taught by the Holy Spirit and responding in submission. Divine revelation makes the human intellect look very foolish indeed. The human intellect responds by challenging the very existence of Divine revelation. “The heart (mind) is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9
