Satan has been working through a false-prophet cabal. This cabal consists of schools, all types of media, fact-checkers, and others. The cabal has normalized many perversions. It made many corruptions popular. First, Satan introduced rationalism, the notion that the human mind can self-generate knowledge without the benefit of observation, experience, or divine revelation. Satan used Plato to promote the idea that eternal truths are grasped by reason, not the senses. For a man who denies the Almighty God, this would seem to make sense. after all, we can’t get outside ourselves to be objective. We interpret everything we take in from our senses, and we need knowledge of the truth and wisdom to accurately interpret any observation or experience. Where does that knowledge and wisdom come from if the human mind can’t self-generate truth? After all, people who don’t know God are able to design buildings and cars that work. Plato didn’t know about cars, but the people of his day did design things that made sense. Plato’s error was that he didn’t consider the God option. Here’s what he missed. Jesus Christ is the Light, and He gives of His Light (wisdom and knowledge) to every person. Some people refuse to thank Him or give Him the glory. They take the glory for themselves. However, they gradually lose the distinction between the wisdom and knowledge Jesus gives and the lies demons and the carnal, deceitful, and desperately wicked human give. Eventually, they can come to the point where they can’t tell the difference between a man and a woman. It gets worse than that as the downward spiral continues.
Modern rationalism fully bloomed in the 1600s with Descartes who said, “I think, therefore I am”, Spinoza, and Leibniz. This line of thought led to liberalism and the bloody French Revolution of the late 1700s. It was a revolution against the authority of kings but also against the Catholic Church. While Martin Luther and others protested against the Catholic Church in the 1500s for spiritual reform, the French revolution was different. Very different! The French Revolution went as far as trying to de-Christianize the world with guillotines. At the core was human reason versus Christ. Of course, the Church has always been subject to putting human reasoning over divine revelation. Notice the warnings against false prophets in the Old Testament along with the promise that God would speak to them if they would stand in His presence. And the conservatives who opposed the liberals weren’t looking to press onward with Christ. They just wanted slow or no change.
In 1789, during the early stages of the French Revolution, the Estates-General met to debate the future of France. Delegates had to choose sides—not just figuratively, but physically—on where to sit in the assembly hall. On the right sat the conservatives. The liberal radicals and revolutionaries sat on the left. This division was so clear and symbolic that newspapers and politicians started using “left” and “right” as shorthand for liberal or conservative — and it stuck!
The meanings of liberalism and conservatism persist to the present. And both can be found in the Church. Neither wants to be led by the Holy Spirit and yielded in obedience to Him. The liberals want to eliminate or distort the Bible. The conservatives want to follow the Bible as dead letter. But what about those who seek to follow Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning of the Bible? The liberals call them conservatives. The conservatives call them liberals. They don’t fit into the worldly systems.
In the 1800s, Satan built on the foolishness of liberalism with false science and false intellectualism to cast doubt on the history in the Bible. Satan then worked to weaken the Church and teach the Church to walk without the leading of Jesus Christ, without Wisdom and Truth that flows from Christ. The conservatives tried to put God’s flowing River of revelation into cisterns for safe keeping, but they were broken cisterns that couldn’t hold the River of God. Since then, Satan has promoted sexual sin, envy, covetousness, murder, stealing, disobedience to parents, disrespect for authority, and disrespect for God. You see it all around you. Those have been active in the fallen human nature since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, but they are now coming to the maturity of evil.
