Jesus broke the power of the devil through His death

In Colossians 1:13-14 through Jesus, we are delivered from darkness: “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Jesus frees us by redeeming us from sin and transferring us into His kingdom. Forgiveness has two parts. God pardons us. He also sends the sin away.

In Titus 2:14 Jesus gave Himself to free us from all wickedness: “Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.” Christ’s death cleanses us from sin and enables us to live for good.

Hebrews 2:14-15 tells us Jesus broke the power of the devil through His death: “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.” Jesus frees us from the power of sin and the fear of death by defeating Satan.

Romans 5:8-9 shows how we are justified and saved from God’s wrath through Christ: “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God.” Jesus’ death saves us from the punishment that sin brings, freeing us from sin’s ultimate consequence and delivering us from Satan’s slavery.
