“And when He putteth forth His own sheep, He goeth before them, and the sheep follow Him: for they know His voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.” … “I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine.” … “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:3-5, 14, & 27 KJV).
The word translated as “hear” in this passage means to comprehend and understand. If that wasn’t clear enough, Jesus also said His sheep recognize Him. They know Him. They know the difference between Christ’s voice and the voice of their fallen mind or a demon. When you are in church meetings where the body of Christ has the freedom to prophesy, you gain a keen sense to recognize the voice of Christ.
However, all who are born again know His voice. He created us to be constantly in His Presence listening to His voice, and any time we aren’t connected directly to Him, we won’t find happiness. In His Presence, we find fullness of joy, and we can’t find it anywhere else. God’s leading will never conflict with Scripture, and it will flow with the fruit of the Spirit. You’ll sense steadfastness, authority, and the Presence of Christ when He speaks. If a message isn’t from God, you’ll sense a check, dread, or uneasiness.
