He means that we can’t fit His new leading into our old preconceptions as the Holy Spirit calls us higher. Our preconceptions are our worldviews, and worldviews seem real. Worldviews make any conflicting truth seem wrong if we try to fit God’s revelation into our old preconceptions. Because of this illusion, we may falsely think we’re safe to continue to think as we’ve always thought, but this illusion doesn’t keep us safe.
