Self-righteousness is you saying your words and doing your works in the moment. Self-righteousness is different from righteousness. Righteousness is God saying His words and doing His works through you in the moment. Self-righteousness can look good, but your works are as filthy rags. How foolish I would be if I tried to establish my own righteousness!
Because they were ignorant of God’s righteousness and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. ~ Romans 10:3
God can’t use your self-generated works no matter how good you think they are. Self-righteousness can say words right out of the Bible. Self-righteousness can follow the letter of God’s Law. However, if God didn’t lead you to it and do it through you, you would be sinning. God wants to know you. God wants a deep bond with you.
