Danger: Moving Away From God’s Design

When we move away from God’s design for the church, we drift into control as a response to fear of chaos on the one hand or, on the other hand, the chaos we don’t want.

Control is often what we reach for when we don’t trust God with the outcome. It’s likely that this fear and lack of trust is what caused the church to begin moving away from God’s order within the first hundred years of its existence. Later, other fleshly drives may have been behind other changes that were inserted into the church. When control is a response to fear of chaos, it produces these results: passive members, centralized power, and fear.
